This week's word is Resolution. A resolution is "a formal expression of opinion or intention made, usually after voting, by a formal organization, a legislature, a club, or other group." A New Year's Resolution is one an individual makes usually based on his or her desires. I guess what bothers me most about New Year's Resolutions is the fact that God is rarely consulted or referenced. Just because we want something does't mean God wants it for us. Sometimes He has other plans that may need to be in place BEFORE or INSTEAD of the plans we have for ourselves. This year, I resolve to listen to Almighty God to see what He would like me to do--not just on...
Communication has evolved a great deal in the technological age. I've talked about what kinds of communication are best for various situations, I've pointed out the pitfalls of different forms of communication and I've discussed how they each have been misused. This week, I'd like to begin a brand new series of articles that will share the details of writing an effective email. Email is a form of communication that most people use and are familiar with, but as JoJoism#20 states, "Do not mistake speaking for communicating. One involves an ability and the other mastery." The same concept is just as true of the informal written word called email. Just because we do something often, doesn't mean we do it...
Have you subscribed to Communication FUNdamentals’ RSS Feed? Don’t miss a post! x It's Praise Week here at Communication FUNdamentals! The Bible talks about praising God, and we should, for all the blessings He has given us, but it also talks about supporting and being a blessing to others. Ephesians 4:29 says, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." Edifying means to build up. God wants us to build others up, to lift them up when they are down, to support them. This scripture also tells us we should do this in order to minister grace to them. Grace means...
Have you subscribed to Communication FUNdamentals’ RSS Feed? Don’t miss a post! Before I start posting my 10 Quick Rules for Disagreeing in Grace, I want to start off Grace Month with an article I wrote a while back. Is Grace a Two Way Street? It talks about two news items where the speaker didn't speak in grace, but it also talks about how Christians should react according to God's Word and why that is most effective. Here is an excerpt from "Is Grace a Two Way Street?" "God gave each of us free will and there are times when folks will choose to be evil with their mouths. Sometimes they don’t mean it the way it sounded and sometimes...
I'm not even sure where to begin. I think I've started this blog post about six times. I'm not even sure I remember all the details of what happened. I just felt the Lord leading me to share all that's been going on here the past month or so. I feel like there's someone out there who needs to know they are not alone. Every once in a while stuff happens. A mistake here. A technical glitch there. Just stuff. Stuff that makes you cringe. Stuff that makes you want to give up. Stuff that makes you want to throw your computer out the window. Stuff. Frustrating stuff. A little bit of frustration is just life. A modest amount of...
