Technology vs Skill

In my recommitment to share my expertise in communication skills, each week, I'm going to be bringing some of my old popular articles out of mothballs. It's amazing how much more timely they are now than they were when I wrote them.  This month I'm sharing an article I wrote many years ago about the difference between communication technology as it's often confused with communication skill. I called it, Communication Technology Doesn't Replace Communication Skill!  Though we are a more connected society than ever before, our communication skill has suffered in the translation. So many more people are ABLE to communicate with more people around the world, but due to the faceless version of our techie communication, we are more emboldened to...

One of the most important Bible scriptures on communication!

The Lord speaks about communication thousands of times in the Bible. Art of Eloquence has a page devoted to communication quotes and scriptures and I've decided to take a quote or scripture each month from this collection and share what I believe it is saying to us today.  This week, I'd like to talk about what I believe is one of the most important scriptures on communication! It's one of the first that jumped out at me when I first began reading the Bible after I accepted Jesus many years ago now.  “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” -Colossians 4:6 If you read my article...

If you're tired of the venom on social media, you can be part of the solution!

It almost feels like the end of the world, doesn't it? First, there was the pandemic when we saw those who were frightened of getting (or passing along) the virus pitted against those who were afraid of losing their income and their freedoms. Next, it was the protests turned riots that spawned racism accusations. Then, we had politics bring even more division with the upcoming election. And in between, there was some talk of Murder Hornets! I know I'm probably dating myself when I tell you that, back in my day, people disagreed fairly respectfully with each other. They listened to the other side's thoughts and ideas and discussed them.  My parents (and my siblings and I) are conservatives, but...

My Take on Social Media Silencing Conservatives

As a Christian conservative, it concerned me greatly how the mainstream media has pushed their liberal anti-faith agenda. So, when social media began taking action against conservative or faith-based posts, I was not a happy camper.  Some of my conservative posts 'went missing' from time to time and, during the whole Diamond and Silk debacle, I was rooting for them and ecstatic to see them back on Facebook! Last year, Facebook rolled out a new procedure for those of us with "large audiences" on our fan pages or groups. I had a page for purple lovers that was almost 9000 strong! Purple isn't a conservative topic nor does it have anything to do with God (other than the God invented...

VITAL: Communication Skills Post Covid19

If covid19 taught us anything, it's how important communication skills are in the information age. If you've been on social media at all, you know how volatile the posts have been about everything from how deadly the Coronavirus is to what we should or shouldn't do about it as a society. Not that they weren't before for topics such as vaccinations, politics, and religion, but most people aren't affected as deeply as they have to the limitations set by our government leaders and the prospects of the virus for the most vulnerable.  I have always maintained that communication skills are vital for us at all times. They make the difference in our friendships, our marriages, our workplace, our careers, and...
