Are You a Mommy, Mom or Mother?

Two of my teens came into my life later, as foster-adoptive children. At first, they called me “Mamma” like they had for any female caregiver. As they began to attach a little, that eventually changed to “Mommy” as if they were finally feeling like the had a real mom. Now, they alternate between “Mommy” and “Mom”. My oldest (almost 18) calls me Mom.
In my own birth home, we called my mother “Mum” or “Marmie” after the Little Women book. But we were much like that story so it seemed natural. -
I guess with my being from the south makes a difference. I’m Mama. I do not like Mom and Mother to me is a control issue. I was Mommy when they were young and still get the occasional Moooommmmy when my oldest two (20 and 14) want something…lol! Although I do not think my youngest (8) will ever go back to Mommy. He is the pragmatic of my kids.
