Are You a Mommy, Mom or Mother?

I guess with my being from the south makes a difference. I’m Mama. I do not like Mom and Mother to me is a control issue. I was Mommy when they were young and still get the occasional Moooommmmy when my oldest two (20 and 14) want something…lol! Although I do not think my youngest (8) will ever go back to Mommy. He is the pragmatic of my kids.

Two of my teens came into my life later, as foster-adoptive children. At first, they called me “Mamma” like they had for any female caregiver. As they began to attach a little, that eventually changed to “Mommy” as if they were finally feeling like the had a real mom. Now, they alternate between “Mommy” and “Mom”. My oldest (almost 18) calls me Mom.
In my own birth home, we called my mother “Mum” or “Marmie” after the Little Women book. But we were much like that story so it seemed natural. -
I love this! No matter what – we are still MOM – no matter how grown up our children get. The relationship changes a little – but all in all – MOM still has a special relationship no matter what they call us. I still call my 82 year old MOM – Mommy. She likes it – and so do I ;)

I’m still a mommy. My kids are 5 and almost 4. They use mom, mama, and mommy interchangeably. What I don’t like (but I’m sure will become much more frequent as the kids get older) is the two syllable “MO-OM!!” It’s usually accompanied by some whine or complaint or other such discontent. :)

I am “Mom” all the way. Both my kids have called me Mom for quite some time now. It was Mommy when they were young, but then I became “Mom.”
It reminds me of a Christmas movie we have watched in the past. The family is going somewhere, and the two young kids are in the back seat. The husband says something about Mom being beautiful and asks the kids “isn’t she beautiful?” The young son replies with “na, she’s just Mom!” I loved that comment:-)
