GoDaddy Apology

My domain names are through GoDaddy, but not my hosting.  I actually did have my hosting with them at one time, but their service was so poor that my website didn’t function properly because of it.  Further, my site was down frequently. They insisted it was my site, but as soon as I moved it to my friend's hosting site http://traciknoppe.com/, everything worked fine.  Thank you, Traci!  :D I must admit that I had a very poor opinion of GoDaddy.com until last week when they issued this apology:

I wasn't surprised by the fact that they had outages, but I was impressed by the email they sent apologizing for it. They addressed the outage issue, apologized for it, put your mind at ease about any issues you might be worried about if you host with them and did so in a timely, sincere and concise way. I am not impressed enough to even think about hosting with them in the future.  I'm very happy with Traci's hosting.  However, GoDaddy.com did impress me enough to write this blog post and that’s saying something with customer service at an all-time low these days. UPDATE: Apparently, if you hosted with GoDaddy.com, you were given a free month of service for your trouble!  NICE TOUCH! What say you? ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ If you liked this post, read…Seven Reasons Why YOU Should Sign Up for the Art of Eloquence Newsletter!

This is how you handle a customer service issue. They did an excellent job. Unfortunately, their service speaks volumes about their company as well. An excellent handling of customer service can smooth over a great many business ills, but it cannot outweigh incredibly poor service. Though it is a great start toward a better reputation if they do address those issues.

My old blog is still hosted there and I got the same letter, except with an offer of a free month’s service for my trouble. It impressed me, too, as I’m not fond of them and have been considering not continuing. When I started, it was the only name I knew for this type of service. They didn’t have to do anything, but they did. In this day and age, that’s a good thing.
