Most people think of communication skills as being important only for speech making politicians or pushy salesman. But the truth is that the most important communication that takes place isn't a speech or a debate, it's all the little things we discuss with family and friends. It's not just important to be careful of the words we use when we are trying to convince someone of something. It's is equally important (and I'd go further by saying it's much MORE important) that we carefully craft our every day conversations that take place between ourselves and our friends and family, teachers and coworkers, neighbors and even strangers on the street.
Studying communication skills and being careful to craft your conversations isn't
important just for special occasions when you are endorsing your choice for president, trying to influence your customer, interviewing for a job or promotion, or convincing your neighbor not to trample your begonias.
Communication is vital for any relationship. You cannot have a relationship without communication and you cannot have a good relationship without effective communication. Think of it this way. You might be able to get through your entire life without ever having to make a speech or sell anything to anyone, but you will never get through one day without communicating something to someone in your life.
