You're making a BIG mistake if you aren't carefully crafting your conversations!

Most people think of communication skills as being important only for speech making politicians or pushy salesman.  But the truth is that the most important communication that takes place isn't a speech or a debate, it's all the little things we discuss with family and friends.  It's not just important to be careful of the words we use when we are trying to convince someone of something.  It's is equally important (and I'd go further by saying it's much MORE important) that we carefully craft our every day conversations that take place between ourselves and our friends and family, teachers and coworkers, neighbors and even strangers on the street.

Studying communication skills and being careful to craft your conversations isn't important just for special occasions when you are endorsing your choice for president, trying to influence your customer, interviewing for a job or promotion, or convincing your neighbor not to trample your begonias.

Communication is vital for any relationship.  You cannot have a relationship without communication and you cannot have a good relationship without effective communication.  Think of it this way.  You might be able to get through your entire life without ever having to make a speech or sell anything to anyone, but you will never get through one day without communicating something to someone in your life.

Those closest to you are the most important people in your life.  So it stands to reason that those are the people who deserve your care the most.  It's actually most important for us to be the most careful when we are speaking with those closest to us.  And I'll take that even a step further.  It's most important to take the MOST care in speaking about the every day little things because it's the little things that mean a lot. It's the little things that make or break your relationships. And it's the times when we let our guard down that we carelessly let something slip that offends someone dear to us resulting in sometimes irreparable harm to our closest relationships. And Art of Eloquence can help!

Thanks, Brooke! I agree. It’s vital for all relationships…more so these days than in times past. Things are so much more complicated these days.

I agree, open communication is important. Well written with excellent points. Thanks for sharing.

I feel the same way, Rebecca. I always have to be careful, but especially when I’m especially in pain or tired or frustrated with life.

Women Living Well posted “Open your mouth only if what you are going to say is more beautiful than silence” and it stirred my spirit. I have to be careful with how I am feeling emotionally because I can be quick to “snap” if I am HANGRY (hungry/angry) or sleep deprived.
Thank you for this…I am going to be simmering on this today!
