LOL, I try so hard not to end up with prepopsitions but it is something with which Mainers (I’m a transplant) grow up. LOL. See? It just doesn’t sound right without the preposition at the end sometimes.

Oh I know. My dd is a grammar snob so I do try hard not to end my sentences with a preposition. However, though I may be able to reword my sentences, I find that many times they sound pompous and since it is now considered OKEY DOKEY to end sentences with a preposition, I often just leave them that way. :D

Erm…. the way I heard it, a woman wrote him a letter complaining that he ended a sentence with a preposition in a speech, and his response was “This is the sort of arrogant pedantry up with which I will not put.”

Yes I heard that too. I like that one even better. Perhaps he said it in more than one way? I found this quote recently.

Never a preposition end with,
Not such a sentence make!
Though difficult to write without,
’Twill make my grammar teacher quake!
