Bad Baby Names

crying-babyMy brother and his wife are having their second baby.  It's a boy.  They have asked that the family keep the name suggestions to ourselves.  I guess we all got a bit overwhelming with the suggestions for their first child and they'd like to do this one SOLO.  Here's what started the whole family naming ritual... We already had a name picked out if our first child was a boy:  Christopher Ryan.  And it was supposed to be a boy.  She was supposed to be a boy.  The doctor told us she was a boy, but on the off chance she wasn't a boy, we needed a girl's name! My folks, well actually my mom, was a HUGE help in naming our daughter.  You see...what my husband called "traditional", I called BORING and what I called "unique", he called WEIRD!  I was eight months pregnant and it was apparent that, unless we found something soon that was not weird or boring, Baby Girl Tabares was going to appear on her birth certificate! Thankfully my mom had just seen an episode of L.A. Law where "Ann Kelsey" married "Stuart Markowitz" and had a baby: "Kelsey Markowitz".  Kelsey was apparently unique without being weird. Reminiscing about naming our daughter, we remembered a suggestion my father had for us, just in case we didn't like Christopher for a boy.  It's been a family joke for 19 yrs and I thought you might get a kick out of it today for Friday Funnies.  It helps if you say it with a New York accent:

Horace Morris Tabares

Do ya think they have a support group for this?

That’s such a great story!! How funny. I love your dad’s input. A friend of mine has the last name Morrill and we though if they had a son, his name could be Mahalalel Morrill. Nice alliteration, don’t you think? LOL!!! :D

Thanks everyone for posting your experiences! I had a story I thought I’d relate. I went to a drs office called “Friendly Medical Center” but they weren’t! I had a very bad experience there and while I was relating it to my sister, she told me to call them and tell them their “un” fell off…so I did! LOL

Oh, I’d feel sorry for the poor little guy with that name!

It seems like so long ago that we picked out our kid’s names. We both loved Joshua so the boy’s name was easy, and when my daughter came along, we named her after my mom. So neither was very difficult!

Yeah!! i can relate… I am expecting twin boys this summer, and there’s been NO lack of suggestions. In fact my 2yo has his own ideas of good names. He’s suggested “Paco” and “Nockery” :-) :-)

Well, I have 9 children and I have picked out many a name.
My husband and I would make a list of names weliked only keeping those names we both wanted then after baby was born I would pick from that list.
I always thought about how the name would sound on a 60 yr. old man or women, so I tried to name them “adult” names.
I also love to see what they look like in print and with titles added like “Dr….” or “Justice…” or “…Attorney at Law” See how that works?
I also tried to give each of the children and equal amount of letters and similar Ethnicity in thier names so no one would feel “left out” or “short changed”
None of the children have said they dislike their name or the name of any of their siblings! I have 6 daughters and 3 sons! Some of the girls names had to go through several baby books before my husband would let me give it to someone.
What are their names? Juliana, Penelope, Katherine, Victoria, Patrick Henry, George, Aurora, Caroline, and Stewart! (Mostly Greek or Latin!)
