FUN with Insomnia–video

As many of you know, I’ve struggled with insomnia for 13yrs. I’ve met so many others who also struggle with it that I began writing some JoJoisms which eventually became Visual JoJoisms.  A while back I put some of those Visual JoJoims together to form this video which has had some great feedback from fellow insomnia sufferers.

It’s been a while since I posted it and thought it was about time I had it featured on Friday Funnies.

If you suffer from insomnia, please feel free to share your thoughts on this video:

Does Spelling Matter or Does It? lol

As long as we are destroying word illusions this week with Toxic Words on Monday and the meaning of peruse on Wednesday, I thought we’d tackle something else that has been a pet peeve of mine for quite a while.

You’ve probably seen that familiar paragraph attributed to Cambridge University that says that as long as you keep the first and last letters of words in the correct places, you can switch around the letters and still read the paragraph.  Here’s a screen shot:

Well, there is more to it than it first appears.  Check out this YouTube video of the Brother’s Winn from What You Ought to Know:

Now that they have burst your bubble on this little parlor trick, I’d like to invite you to think about something else.  Even if this did work for all words, does it really mean spelling doesn’t matter?  Um…no!  Spelling DOES matter and for more than just your resume, Word Snobs and Grammar Nazis.  Spelling matters for clarity.  Think about how difficult it would be to read an entire email, letter or book this way.

Lastly, I invite you to think about this: effective communication demands that you “dno’t mkae yuor raeders wrok so hrad” in order to understand you…or they WON’T!

Dr. SeUsS FuN

Today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. He would have been 108 years old today.  We’ve been talking about Dr. Seuss, silly words, creative fun and humor all this week.  This week, I’d like to share a new movie coming out–today as a matter of fact: The Lorax.  Has anyone seen a preview of this movie?  It looks cute, colorful and fun, but I don’t happen to remember the story.  My kids are a bit old for Dr. Seuss.  Would love you to share your thoughts.

Sometimes the movies made from Dr. Seuss stories have a little twist to them I wasn’t expecting.  There was some controversy about Horton Hears a Who, which had a kangaroo who was “Pouch Schooled” which seemed to suggest the old socialization issue and perhaps an anti-Christian bias.  Please share your thoughts.

FUN with Insomnia Video

Art of Eloquence will have all new Communication FUNdamentals in 2012!  We started off the year with a brand new series of Art of Eloquence monthly seminars where I shared 16 Communication Myths and Phobias that will hurt your relationships!  If you missed it live, just click on the title and listen to the 20 minute audio.

Another free monthly feature we’ve added for 2012 is our new video series!  Some will be based on my JoJoisms, some will be videos of me sharing some communication tips or ideas, some will be other creative videos, but this month we started with…

A Visual JoJoisms Short Film Using Communication FUNdamentals.  The more creative and fun our communication is, the more memorable and effective we are at getting our message across.  I’ve had insomnia for many years. For those of you who don’t have insonmia, this is how it feels.  For those of you who do, share it with your friends and family so they will understand.  And…have a giggle on me!

Merry CHRISTmas!

I love this song!  I share it with you on CHRISTmas because CHRISTmas isn’t about Santa or family or presents, but it’s also not just about baby Jesus or the wise men or the manger.  It’s about our sin, it’s about God’s love, it’s about the blood that Jesus shed for us.

But more than this, the beginning of the story, it’s about the cross.  It’s the ending to the story on Resurrection Sunday that saves us.

CHRISTmas is only the beginning of Jesus’ story.  He wasn’t just born for us, but He lived with us and died for us.  That’s the love of our Lord and Savoir.

I pray you have had a blessed time this past month leading up to this day. Merry CHRISTmas from all of us here at Art of Eloquence to all of you!

Make sure you are subscribed to our RSS feed so you can get the rest of the Jesus story when I share more about his death and resurrection as well as all my articles in between that share what God says and teaches about how we should communicate to each other and about Him.

Day 22 of the Countdown to CHRISTmas-CHRISTmas Shoes

Today’s video is one that I can never get through without crying.  The precious gift of a child for his mom who may meet Jesus tonight.  It’s called The CHRISTmas Shoes and sung by Newsong.

The video is like a mini movie and just as precious as it could be to show the love of a child for his mother on CHRISTmas Eve.

This is the Love of Christ right in the heart of that little boy and how he shows the man in line behind him a glimpse into the kind of love that Jesus has for us.

Tomorrow is another great video. Until then…

Day 16 of the Countdown to CHRISTmas-12 Days Medley Fun

It’s time again for Friday Funnies and one of my favorite CHRISTmas medleys is from Straight No Chaser.  This is an all male a capella group with an amazing sense of humor.

Yes some of these are not CHRISTmas songs, but you will be giggling all the while!  Making their fifth appearance here at the Art of Eloquence Video Countdown to CHRISTmas…12 Days of CHRISTmas…

Are you having a stressful time this CHRISTmas season?  If so, you need more giggles.  Do you know someone who needs more giggles too?  Pass this link on!  I’ll see you tomorrow with another video in the countdown.  Until then…

Day 14 of the Countdown to CHRISTmas-Carol of the Bells

For the third or fourth year here on the AoE Countdown to CHRISTmas is an instrumental version (piano) of Carol of The Bells by George Winston.  I love the scenes depicted in the video and his version of this song is simply gorgeous.

I could listen to this for hours.  I love the way it changes throughout the piece and comes round again.  It’s a more creative version than I’ve heard.

We all need to slow down about this time of year, just about ten days out from CHRISTmas to listen to the sounds of CHRISTMas and remember the beauty of what Jesus did.

I’ll have another great video tomorrow.  Until then…

Day 12 of the Countdown to CHRISTmas-Amazing Grace Laser Show

Another excellent version of Amazing Grace in a rock laser show!  I’m saving my favorite version of Amazing Grace for CHRISTmas Day, but this one is a wonderful rock version with a fabulous light display.

How many versions there are of some of these songs!  Each one is a different interpretation.  Just like us!  Each one of us sees things slightly differently and has a slightly different testimony and story to tell about our walk with God.  Isn’t that wonderful?  Each song minsters to a different mood just as each person can minister to a different lost soul.

What an amazing way for God to help us to share with others about Him!

Another wonderful video coming your way tomorrow.  Until then…

Day 10 of the Countdown to CHRISTmas-Heart of CHRISTmas

The video countdown continues with Matthew West and Heart of CHRISTmas!

This is a new one on the countdown this year.  I just found this song and I love it.  It speaks to what is at the heart of what CHRISTmas is all about.

This is what we all strive to remember as Christians.  It’s why I continue to spell it CHRISTmas.  It reminds me to make sure I put Christ back in my CHRISTmas.
