Merry CHRISTmas from Art of Eloquence!

It’s CHRISTmas Eve–a time for reflection, family and praise for Christ.  Since The Year of Faith over on my newsletter is just around the corner.  (Be sure to subscribe to this blog for in 2014, I’ll be back with a weekly column to educate and amaze!)   I’m taking these last few weeks of 2013 to share some praise and worship with you.

This video touches on one of my pet peeves about CHRISTmas time.  There is very little Christ in CHRISTmas anymore.  Most of the Christmas movies talk about it being all about family and love.  A nice concept to be sure, but certainly not the focus of CHRISTmas.  Some of the Christmas movie line up doesn’t even talk about Christmas!  Every year during the Holidays there is a Harry Potter marathon!

So to do my share, please enjoy this very special CHRISTmas video.  Becky Kelley with Where’s the Line to See Jesus:

Merry CHRISTmas one and all!

The Video Countdown to CHRISTmas began, as usual, on December 1st and will end on December 25th.  Also you can subscribe to JoJoisms.com and get your Daily Life Laughs and Giggles.  Everyone has struggles. This blog is a nice place to come for a break, support and fun!

Day 12: Carol of the Bells

For the fourth year here on the AoE Countdown to CHRISTmas is an instrumental version (piano) of Carol of The Bells by George Winston. I love the scenes depicted in the video and his version of this song is simply gorgeous.

I could listen to this for hours. I love the way it changes throughout the piece and comes round again. It’s a more creative version than I’ve heard.

We all need to slow down about this time of year, just about ten days out from CHRISTmas to listen to the sounds of CHRISTMas and remember the beauty of what Jesus did.

I’ll have another great video tomorrow. Until then…

6th Annual Art of Eloquence Video Countdown to CHRISTmas!

The 6th Annual Art of Eloquence Video Countdown to CHRISTmas starts today!

Music video is a powerful form of communication. We can use it to worship, to express ourselves and to share the love of God. My goal, again, this CHRISTmas is to help put Christ back in our CHRISTmas by sharing 25 of my most favorite CHRISTmas videos with you.

This first one is one I discovered last year called Where’s the Line to See Jesus? It shares my feeling, and that of many other Christians today, that our society has commercialized this blessed holiday to the point were we don’t even know what it’s all about anymore.

Though there are many Christmas movies during this holiday season, there are precious few CHRISTmas movies. Most of the movies these days will acknowledge that the true meaning of CHRISTmas isn’t in the gifts we give and get, but instead of sharing that Jesus is the reason for the season, they tell us that the season is all about family and giving and love and friendship.

Well, it may, indeed, be about that for many, but for Christians, the reason for CHRISTmas is the Christ! I pray the 6th Annual Video Countdown to CHRISTmas will help you keep more of Christ in your CHRISTmas this year.

Adorable Little Girl’s Prayer for Mac-N-Cheese

It’s time for Friday Funnies here on the Art of Eloquence blog.  Since we’ve been talking about being thankful and praising God this month, I’d like to share one of my favorite YouTube videos.  This adorable little girl says a prayer to Jesus, thanking God for her Mac-N-Cheese and several other things. My favorite part is at the beginning when she just can’t help herself and leans over to eat a macaroni before finishing her prayer.  Too cute!

I pray this short video uplifts your spirit if you are struggling with something this month.  Enjoy a Prayer for Mac-N-Cheese!

Yesterday in 1876: First two-way phone conversation

Continuing with Innovation and Discovery Week here on the blog…

Yesterday was the anniversary of the first two-way phone conversation.  On this plaque:

“From this site on October 9, 1876 the first two-way long distance telephone conversation was carried on for three hours. From here in Cambridgeport Thomas G. Watson spoke over a telegraph wire to Alexander Graham Bell at the office of the Walworth Mfg. Co. 69 Kirby Street, Boston, Mass.

While I wasn’t able to get a video of the first two-way, long distance telephone conversation, I was able to find one explaining how the first two-way, transatlantic telephone conversation worked.

In 1926 The Post Office and Bell Laboratories engineered the world’s first two way transatlantic telephone conversation (by radio) via Rugby Radio Station. We opened a commercial radio telephone service across the Atlantic in 1927, see how it was done in this video from 1938.
