Isn’t it time to repair your relationship and resolve that conflict?

Face OffIt’s a new year and, like all new beginnings, it comes with an opportunity.  Each year, and each day for that matter, gives us an opportunity to renew old friendships, repair past hurts, and rekindle the love we once felt for our spouse.

Is there a friend you haven’t spoken to in a long time?  Was it just because you hadn’t taken the time or is it due to a falling out?  The longer we are out of touch with someone, the more difficult it seems to take that first step toward renewal or repair of a distant or damaged relationship.

Many people I talk to say they’d be willing to repair a relationship if only the other person would make first contact.  The problem is that is usually what the other person is thinking.  You are waiting for him and he is waiting for you.

Why not take the first step?  I’ll bet you’d be surprised at how much less difficult it is than you thought it would be.  Sometimes all it takes is hello to rekindle old friendships or even to smooth over a small misunderstanding.  I challenge you this year to try.  Your relationships are well worth the effort!

If you are looking to repair a relationship that has been damaged by a deep conflict, Art of Eloquence can help.  Check out Say What You Mean: Avoiding, Reducing and Resolving Conflicts.  Browse our free lesson at the bottom of the page.  If you purchase this study, you’ll learn how to bridge the gap and repair old hurts no matter how long they have festered.

Or sign up for this month’s webinar: Resolving Conflicts, and get this study as a bonus gift!

Consider what you once had with that person and ask yourself if it’s worth a few dollars and a little of your time to have that again.

How to Keep Your Resolutions

Well, it’s here again, the last day of 2012.  Happy New Year to all my blog readers!  We pray 2013 brings you many blessings.

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions and, if so, have you kept them?  Studies show that most people who make resolutions, don’t keep them.  However, did you know that sharing your goals with others can actually help you keep them?  Why?  Because reaching a goal is difficult.

Most of the incredible things men and women have done throughout history have been accomplished because of the help and support of friends or family.  Even more than that, communicating your goals to your friends, neighbors and family will make it public and increase the chances that you will keep your word to stop smoking, lose weight or make extra income.

Now if you are thinking that all your friends and family will be encouraging and supportive and that’s how you’ll keep your resolutions, you’d be partially correct.   Many will encourage you to keep going, but some may even secretly hope you fail.  Some don’t really want to keep their resolutions and they don’t want to be alone in this. lol

However, telling Uncle Harold that you will finally clean out your garage after 12 years of saying so will prompt him to keep bringing it up at family functions all year and you’ll find yourself picking through years of old junk you couldn’t bring yourself to part with in the past just to save face!  It can be a fabulous motivator if you are willing to take a little abuse.

What kinds of things would you like to accomplish in 2013?  Is one of them to learn to communicate with your friends, family, spouse, children, or co workers?  Don’t forget that we can help you with that!  Make sure you are subscribed to our blog and newsletter.  They will give you insight and tips as well as keep you posted on upcoming webinars and communication studies!

What’s in Jesus’ Name?

Flowery WordsFor to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” -Isaiah 9:6

In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare wrote, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”  But that is not exactly true because each word has a slightly different meaning or connotation.  The use of a slightly different word in a situation is often how  misunderstandings begin.

Each word God speaks is carefully crafted. He is purposeful and He always says what He means.  God could have used many terms to describe His son, but notice the hope reflected in the descriptions He uses for our Savior here: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus is a Wonderful Counselor.  He’s someone we can turn to who will help us sort things out, but He’s much more than that. It says He’s a wonderful counselor.  How many times have we gone to friends or family or a paid professional who has steered us wrong?  Jesus never will!

Jesus is the Mighty God.  There were several gods worshiped in Jesus’ Day as there are now, but He isn’t just any god and He is mighty!

Jesus is our Everlasting Father.  We all have an earthly father, but not all of us are blessed to still have our fathers with us.  Some of our earthly fathers have died.  Some our earthly fathers left us emotionally.  Some of our earthly fathers have suffered an illness and they have left us mentally.  Jesus will never leave us or forsake us!

Jesus is the Prince of Peace.  He’s not just a prince as in the earthly sense who rules over others wielding his power with a sword for personal gain.  Jesus brings us peace…a peace that surpasses all our earthly understanding.

The precision of God’s Word is is deliberate and in some cases holds even deeper meaning within it.  We can’t be the perfect communicator that God is, but we should do our best to craft our words such that we say what we mean in a way that most effectively communicates our message to our audience.

This year, Art of Eloquence would like to help each of you to say what you mean among your family, friends, business associates and in your ministry.  Start the new year by making sure you are subscribed to this blog and to our newsletter.  The links are on the right and also below this post.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I love this song! I share it with you on CHRISTmas because CHRISTmas isn’t about Santa or family or presents, but it’s also not just about baby Jesus or the wise men or the manger. It’s about our sin, it’s about God’s love, it’s about the blood that Jesus shed for us.

More than the beginning of the story, it’s about the cross. It’s the ending to the story on Resurrection Sunday that saves us.

CHRISTmas is only the beginning of Jesus’ story. He wasn’t just born for us, but He lived with us and died for us. That’s the love of our Lord and Savoir.

I pray you have had a blessed time this past month leading up to this day. Merry CHRISTmas from all of us here at Art of Eloquence to all of you!

Day 24: Amazing Grace

This is my all time favorite song! Amazing Grace here sung a capella  by the incredible angelic voice of LeAnn Rimes.

I have included this song all five years of the countdown. The crystal clear and rich voice she gives to this song gives me goosebumps.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found. Was blind, but now I see.

Merry CHRISTmas Eve! I’ll be back tomorrow with one more special video for you. Until then…

Day 23: Christmas Shoes

Today’s video is one that I can never get through without crying. The precious gift of a child for his mom who may meet Jesus tonight. It’s called The CHRISTmas Shoes and sung by Newsong.

The video is like a mini movie and just as precious as it could be to show the love of a child for his mother on CHRISTmas Eve.

This is the Love of Christ right in the heart of that little boy and how he shows the man in line behind him a glimpse into the kind of love that Jesus has for us.

Tomorrow is another great video. Until then…

Day 22: Little Drummer Boy

Only a few days left of the 6th Annual Video Countdown to CHRISTmas. Today I bring you the most musically interesting version of Little Drummer Boy by Jars of Clay.

I’m afraid the video isn’t very visually interesting, but I couldn’t find another with this version of this song. I absolutely adore the drums and rhythm. The harmony is quite different as well.

Coming up in the next few days are a few more incredible ways to worship and praise the Lord for the gift of CHRISTmas. Until then…

Day 21: Straight No Chaser Medley

It’s time again for Friday Funnies and one of my favorite CHRISTmas medleys is from Straight No Chaser. This is an all male a capella group with an amazing sense of humor.

Yes some of these are not CHRISTmas songs, but you will be giggling all the while! Making their sixth appearance here at the Art of Eloquence Video Countdown to CHRISTmas…12 Days of CHRISTmas…

Are you having a stressful time this CHRISTmas season? If so, you need more giggles. Do you know someone who needs more giggles too? Pass this link on! I’ll see you tomorrow with another video in the countdown. Until then…

Day 20: Christmas Offering

Another video making it’s second appearance here at the AoE countdown to CHRISTmas is Casting Crowns with CHRISTmas Offering.

I bring an offering of worship to my King. I thought about these words. As we juggle the crowds at the mall and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we need to stop not only to thank the Lord for the gift that Jesus has given us, but also to offer ourselves as a gift to Him. To worship and to allow Him to do with us what He wills.

We are winding down the countdown to CHRISTmas this year. Tomorrow is another in just a few more until we celebrate the most precious gift we have ever received: the free gift of salvation in Christ Jesus.
