Adorable Little Girl’s Prayer for Mac-N-Cheese

It’s time for Friday Funnies here on the Art of Eloquence blog.  Since we’ve been talking about being thankful and praising God this month, I’d like to share one of my favorite YouTube videos.  This adorable little girl says a prayer to Jesus, thanking God for her Mac-N-Cheese and several other things. My favorite part is at the beginning when she just can’t help herself and leans over to eat a macaroni before finishing her prayer.  Too cute!

I pray this short video uplifts your spirit if you are struggling with something this month.  Enjoy a Prayer for Mac-N-Cheese!

Marco Rubio interviewed on Hannity

Marco Rubio and his wife were interviewed on Hannity recently.  I was incredibly impressed with him.  He’s very articulate, humble, sincere and had an incredible way of drawing people in and relating to them.  I think he’d be a fine running mate for Mitt Romney.

On the flip side there was his wife.  Now she was clearly nervous, but she came across as inarticulate as well.  Even someone who was nervous would be able to answer questions even if she stumbled over her words.  Mrs. Rubio appeared not to know the answers to questions.  It was as if she’d never thought about them before. Though she will not be running, she will be expected to campaign with him and answer a few questions now and again.  She’ll need some coaching if he is Romney’s running mate.

The video is about 40 minutes, but very enlightening about the man who may become the next vice president of the United States.

What do you think?  Does a Vice Presidential candidate’s wife need to be more articulate?  Or do you think it isn’t material to the campaign?

How Not to Rhyme

This has been a week of words.  On Monday, I talked about how our words should be grace-filled as we fulfill Titus 2: 7-8.  On Wednesday, I shared A Story of Image.   Today I’d like to share a fun video about rhyming.  This is from Song Drops. It’s called, I Wrote This Song Before I Knew How to Rhyme.   Enjoy your Friday Funny!

Does Spelling Matter or Does It? lol

As long as we are destroying word illusions this week with Toxic Words on Monday and the meaning of peruse on Wednesday, I thought we’d tackle something else that has been a pet peeve of mine for quite a while.

You’ve probably seen that familiar paragraph attributed to Cambridge University that says that as long as you keep the first and last letters of words in the correct places, you can switch around the letters and still read the paragraph.  Here’s a screen shot:

Well, there is more to it than it first appears.  Check out this YouTube video of the Brother’s Winn from What You Ought to Know:

Now that they have burst your bubble on this little parlor trick, I’d like to invite you to think about something else.  Even if this did work for all words, does it really mean spelling doesn’t matter?  Um…no!  Spelling DOES matter and for more than just your resume, Word Snobs and Grammar Nazis.  Spelling matters for clarity.  Think about how difficult it would be to read an entire email, letter or book this way.

Lastly, I invite you to think about this: effective communication demands that you “dno’t mkae yuor raeders wrok so hrad” in order to understand you…or they WON’T!

Ronald Reagan-What’s My Line

It’s time again for Friday Funnies and since we are still celebrating Ronald Reagan’s birthday this week, I thought I’d post a rare video of his appearance on What’s My Line that I found on YouTube.  Enjoy this vintage black and white humor spectical.

Before I Could Rhyme

This is from a YouTube series called Song Drops. It’s called Before I Could Rhyme: A funny song by Bryant Oden.  It’s written for kids and so there’s a part in the middle that’s a bit gross, but the use of language and “UNrhyme” for lack of a better “NONword” is truly funny.
