I didn’t say what I just said

I usually have a Friday Funny for you at the end of the week, but this Friday is a bit different.  On Monday, I shared my review of the latest political ads.  I don’t think President Obama’s ads are working for him.  Reports indicate they aren’t working for him.

Here is why.  President Obama is his own worst enemy.  He’s been caught on video saying dumb things. I guess you can get away with denying you said something that was caught on tape for a while, but as soon as the video goes viral, it’s hard to maintain your innocence.  However, when you deny saying something that was caught on tape in a video where you actually show yourself saying it, that’s a whole new kind of dumb.

Here, in a pro Barack Obama YouTube channel video (paid for by Obama for America), he claims he never made the now famous statement, “If you build your business, you didn’t do it, Someone else did that.”  This ad claims Mitt Romney is a liar by accusing the President of saying this.  But watch the last few seconds of this video and you’ll see President Obama actually say it.

Sort of reminds me of Baghdad Bob, the Iraqi Information Minister during the Gulf War. As we were bombing after Desert Storm, he was denying we were even a threat,  “They are nowhere near the airport ..they are lost in the desert…they can not read a compass…they are retarded.”

There are really two issues here:

1. The beginning of this video says that President Obama didn’t say, “If you build your business, you didn’t do it, Someone else did that.” However the end of the video shows him saying it.

2. The ad asserts that Romney agrees with Obama, but I don’t think this is very persuasive.  Romney does say that you couldn’t have a business without things like roads, but it appears that most Americans didn’t understand him to mean that you didn’t build your own business.

After viewing this ad, I think most Americans come away with the idea that Mitt Romney is pro business and President Obama is not.  This ad is counter productive for Team Obama.

Do the latest Obama & Romney ads work well?

I haven’t seen many Romney ads here in Arizona, but I have seen this one for President Obama quite a lot:

I don’t think it works well for him. It doesn’t say anything about the President, his record, or what he will do.  It attacks Romney for things that many Americans believe are misleading.  Lastly, it blames Mitt Romney for the mess the country is in, but the viewer is left feeling it doesn’t follow.  Romney hasn’t been in office for the past four years; the President has.  This feels to the viewer as an all-too-obvious shifting of the blame which the President has been accused of many times before.

Those who don’t support the president, are not swayed by these attacks on Romney’s businesses and those who do support him will support him regardless.  Those who are undecided are showing to be pro business and this ad doesn’t sway them either.

Here’s the latest Romney ad:

This is very effective, at least as it relates to small business.  It uses President Obama’s own words against him and shows Mitt Romney as someone who will represent the average small business owner out there.  It even appeals to others who don’t own their own businesses because the polls show that the attacks on Romney by Obama are not working.

Check back on Friday for another kind of political ad which is perfect for Friday Funnies.  I only hope it’s still there on Friday when my blog post comes out.  You’ll see why.

Rolling Political Messages

If you’ve seen the news lately, you know that many Americans are upset with the current administration’s stance on things like health care reform and the economy.  Many are attending Town Hall Meetings to voice their concerns and communicate their desires for the country.  Most are doing so respectfully and I commend them.  Some, have taken to communicating in a nontraditional manner: on their vehicles.

Obama Stimulus

The Talk Talk Show on the Communication Comedy Network had a show last week on communication on the road.  This was not one of the issues we discussed but you might want to listen in as it is somewhat related.

NOTE: I’m sorry but I had to close the comments box on this post.  I was getting tons of SPAM on this thread and, though it wasn’t getting posted without my approval, it caused me to spend my last few days deleting all the spider’s spam messages.
