Tomorrow is Information Overload Day

For all of you who feel overwhelmed, here’s your Friday giggle…

x

Okay, Mildred. I guess I can have the report on your desk in ten minutes.  All I need to do is find the library references, incorporate today’s news reports, search the internet for relevent resources, and our files to make sure we haven’t done something like this in the past twenty years.

You’ll never guess why there is no ice!

Today’s Friday Funny just tickled my funny bone as I sit here in ARIDzona in July.  It must be so frustrating when ice becomes unavailable due to freezing temperature.

It’s Tax Day and we all need a giggle.  This Friday Funny is brought to you by my dd and her college friend.

My dd emailed this to me the other day from college.  Her friend had ordered pizza to be delivered to the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and it came with this receipt.

They say God is in the details, but I didn’t think He was into pizza delivery!  If you notice, it says, “Your pizza experience managed by Christ.”

Now I’m sure that a Christopher (or Christine) must be the manager of this pizza establishment, but I think it serves to remind us that God is ultimately in control, does it not?

Chef Boyardee Ad

It’s Friday and time for Friday Funnies here on Communication FUNdamentals!

I love the latest Chef Boyardee commercials.  Their newest tv ad is the best, but I can’t find it. May be too new yet.  But here is their first one in their series called, Obviously Delicious; Secretly Nutritious.

Great use of NONverbal communication, eh?

To Park or Not to Park…

To park or not to park… that is the question!

But what is the answer? LOL

Yankee Pledge of Doodle

Today’s Friday Funny is actually a fun activity I use in my communication studies to drive home the point that you cannot talk and listen at the same time.   Most of the kids in my classes have so much fun with this one but they are so busy laughing, they don’t notice they are learning!  Here’s how it works:

Have one of your children sing Yankee Doodle while the other recites the Pledge of Allegiance.  See how long you can go without messing up…or …cracking up!   Really try to listen to the other person as you  recite your part.  Get’s kind of difficult now doesn’t it?  lol

If your child knows the song too well, here is a more advanced version:

Have one of your children read from a book that your children are not very familiar with.  A newspaper will do just as well.  Have the other child read from another.  See how long you can go as you try to listen to what the other is saying.  After about a minute or two, tell the other what you heard them say.  See how much detail you caught.

Illustrates the saying: “God gave us two ears and only one mouth that we might listen twice as much as we speak.”

Active listening is a vital part of communication.  Most people are too busy thinking about what they want to say next to really hear what the other is saying.
